Residential, Easter Road

Client:
FM Developments

Location:
Easter Road, Edinburgh

Budget:
£5m

Status:
Completed

This development was constructed in two phases and is predominately made up of three and four storey blocks, giving a total of 87 flats overall. Facing onto Easter Road is a six storey building with under building car parking which reflects the urban scale of the area.

The development is designed in a contemporary fashion using smooth white render, brickwork and slates, punctuated with cedar boarding and zinc cladding.

Facing Easter Road the elevation uses projecting curved brick stair towers and glass block glazing to respond to the bustle and drama of the streetscape. Each flat is sensitive to its orientation, with metal balconies, railings and full height glazing taking advantage of the west and south sun and views.
The penthouse flats on the upper floors benefit further from dramatic views over the city.

The combination of materials and the careful planning of the five blocks within a constrained site make for a very striking and popular development that has played a major role in the continual regeneration of the Easter Road and Leith area.
