Nairn Hospital

Client:
Prime Public Partnerships Ltd

Location:
Site of the existing Community Hospital, Cawdor Road, Nairn

Budget:
£10M

Status:
Phase 1 started on site March 2008
Phase 2 due on site summer 2009
Completion due Summer 2010

The project retains and refurbishes the buildings of historical interest on the site whilst incorporating a significant new purpose built facility which will provide general medical services, A & E inpatient facilities, dentistry and a pharmacy for the local community. The final building solution will provide circa 60,000 sq.ft. of accommodation.

In order that healthcare in the region is not disturbed the project is being undertaken in two phases to allow services to remain operational whilst construction works are being undertaken.

The new construction links to the refurbished existing building and replaces, to the rear of the site, a range of outbuildings which are presently in poor condition. The proposal is of a scale sympathetic to the surrounding area and the material choice incorporates the use of traditional local building materials such as clashasch stone, render and timber with more contemporary metal cladding and glazing systems to ensure the proposal is integrated within the surrounding built environment. The forms, layout and materials of the built solution, internally and externally, ensure that building users can navigate their chosen path with ease, uncomplicated by the complex programme of operations housed within.

PMP have used consultations with various specialists and members of the public to express our ideas and receive feedback. Following this, the building solution provides a flexible, safe and efficient working environment to allows a full range of professionals with a variety of skills, to see patients from the whole of Nairn and the surrounding catchment area within one complex.
